This Man’s Best Friend

Say hello to my best friend Kobi.

He’s been the most loyal and faithful companion anyone could ask for. He was great with the kids while they were growing up, and he provided protection while I was away on construction projects throughout the northeast. He has been my partner on many, many all night cooks.

He’s getting up in his years now (he just turned 13 yesterday), he’s been diabetic for the last 4-1/2 years and we’ve been giving him 2 insulin injections every day without ever missing once. He’s mostly blind and deaf now, and he has arthritis in his hips. He’s been having a really tough time getting up and down the stairs these days, and he’s absolutely mortified when he as an accident on the porch trying to get down to do his business.

Well I didn’t have time to BBQ this weekend, because I was building him this. He took to it like a duck to water! Happy Birthday Kobi!

  • Seriously, you rock.

  • Jeff Caldwell:

This literally brought tears to my eyes. What a Fantastic present. I miss my Lab so much and I can definitely relate to what you have written about yours. You can’t ask for a better pet and I have had pets since I started to crawl and that was many years ago. I have been on your blog pretty much all afternoon and have to commend you on an excellent job. I am definitely going to try a lot of your recipes and I have learned a lot but didn’t want to look so dumb and ask how on the BBQ Brethren forum. My forum name there is J_Don. Best of luck on you upcoming competitions.

  • Mister Bob:

Jeff, Kobi is gone now and I miss him a lot. The ramp made his last months a little easier, and I’m really glad I was able to do that for him.

I’m also glad you like the blog, I hope my love of BBQ is evident in my posts. If you ever have a question, just ask. I firmly believe that the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask.
